As part of the completion of the 30 days of blogging honesty, I have to complete a dare. And I am choosing the dare of writing a letter to my 16 year old self.
It has been a while since I last wrote to you. 16 years have passed like quick silver. I am sure you would never have even imagined all those changes and events you have seen in the years since you turned 16. I can hardly believe that you have turned out into me, as I see myself today. Firstly, i would like to salute you for having made it to the point where you are now. remember, you never even fathomed that this would be in your experience. You never even thought that you will make it alive..
So what is new ? what remains old? What sights have you seen? What nightmares have you experienced?..
I always knew at 16 years, you were a dreamer, a care free person, who loved her home very much. Never ever wanted to be away from home. That was true and remains true till today. Love for the home. But reality is that, from a delhi girl, to a foreign export, you have spend the last 10 years in singapore. You never wanted to ever leave delhi and yet during the last 10 years, you have created a space here. Singapore has taught you many things. Singapore has made you more open, as you now realise. It has made you realise even more strongly, that the ties between you and the mother will never die. In fact,it has become stronger.
Between 16 years and 35 years, you have learnt valuable lessons about a quality called adjustment and compromise. You need these qualities to hang on during life’s worst moments. It helps you thrive.
Between 16 years and 35 years, it has also confirmed the necessity to be independent when you take your decisions. You were free thinking earlier and you are far more so now. With the additional advantage, that you are more open in expressing yourself now..The good part is restrictions of real world has not stoppered your spirit. I sincerely hope it remains that way.
Of course you have made many mistakes along the way. You NOW realise of taking your own approval and agreement before signing onto anything. You NOW realise the importance of not saying YES when someone asks you to say YES. You NOW realise the importance of not going along with the crowd on every issue. You NOW realise the importance of standing up for your thoughts. You realise, it is ONE life and you need to make the most of it. It is YOUR life. YOURS only. Not to be bartered away for someone’s NEEDS.
You were probably a baby at 16 years. wise in somethings, totally led by others in other things. I thing that is changing.
Somewhere during the last few years, you learnt the importance of
ASKIGN asking questions and not being afraid of being rejected for that. Experiences have taught you that personal INTEGRITY is more important than anything else. YOU need to live with yourself everyday, not with other people.
The good thing is you still remain a dreamer, a peace lover. But you need to be more out of yourself and more out into the world. It is important to be in touch with the world.
So, just keep in mind that you would be evolving and learning many things in your evolution to the self writing to you now. Remember to value that child like feeling and the home and what you love the most, because as you will see when you walk along the path of life, you may have to separate from it someday. Make the most of it.
I know right now you are in the best part of life, With your friends and school and carefree times. Make the most of it as life will get more serious, when you pursue career aims and other things..You will never get this time back.
Make the most of home and the time you get with your parents. As your 35 year future, I would like to tell this to you without telling you anymore.
Remember to be more focussed in what you do. it will make a lot of difference in the future.
And I won’t tell you anything more than that, just that let your life take you the way it is meant to. ANd remember, you can change the life and have it the way you want to. You are the boss of your life. Never let anyone else tell you that it is not.
Go for it, gal!
