Every time this festival comes around, there is an influx of memories and nostalgia. I enjoy festivals in general but this one is always special. The message being : conquest of good over evil. well, there can be some rethink on that.
But it spreads cheer and good will and the lights and the crackers are so synonymous with it.
I know, it is politically correct nowadays to claim no crackers and so on but hey, we are humans, let us not be so uptight. We can use crackers in a smaller way, after all it is just one day in a year.
I loved the days of dressing up in fine clothes, and going shopping for patakhas and buying sweets. I loved the thrill of going to GP market to have chaat and tikki.
i loved having friends at home to share the bag of crackers and the goodies..
More especially I love the vivid joy in the face of people when they celebrate with their family. The glow from the candles and lights lighting up the entire area.
Enjoy and celebrate and do remember to be a human and not a pompous prig with an overdose of political correctness. After all these days go by soon …
